A cross-cultural festival to showcase creative art forms for promotion and propagation of the culture of international peace and solidarity
In a nation long overshadowed by ideological rigidity, intolerance, and cultural isolation, the International Peace Culture Festival emerges as a bold and necessary initiative—an artistic and civic response to the urgent need for healing and renaissance. The concept, envisioned by Nima Kiann, is rooted in a profound belief: that art, in all its expressive forms, is the most powerful vehicle for cultivating peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding within a fractured society.
Iran, a country with one of the richest artistic heritages in the world, has endured nearly half a century of sociopolitical repression and ideological polarization. This project aims to reclaim and revitalize Iran’s artistic and humanist spirit, fostering dialogue and cultural exchange as fundamental elements of a democratic and pluralistic society.
This visionary initiative traces its origins back to 2004, when the International Peace Culture Festival was first registered as a nonprofit organization in Sweden. Although it never found the opportunity to take shape at the time, its founding ideals remain as relevant today as they were then—perhaps even more so.
Art bridges divides. Peace resonates in Iran.Nima Kiann
Now, two decades later, this initiative is being reawakened and reimagined for a future Iran: one that is ready to embrace coexistence, solidarity, and the celebration of cultural diversity. It draws conceptual inspiration from the legendary Shiraz Arts Festival but redefines itself through the lens of today’s global challenges and Iran’s specific needs.
The festival will be a multidisciplinary celebration of both performing and visual arts—from dance, theatre, and music to painting, sculpture, handicrafts, photography, calligraphy, and graphic design. By opening its stage and exhibition spaces to artists from Iran and around the world, the festival will create a vibrant platform for cross-cultural dialogue, collaborative creation, and artistic innovation.
This will not be merely a festival of aesthetics—it will be a festival of ideas. Through workshops, discussions, and cultural forums, the event will actively engage communities in examining the values of peace, inclusion, artistic freedom, and cultural dignity.
As the founder and artistic director of this revitalized initiative, Nima Kiann brings decades of experience in cultural production, academic research, and international collaboration to the project. His leadership ensures that the festival will not only be artistically groundbreaking but also rooted in a deep ethical commitment to peace, truth, and human dignity.
In the same spirit that once brought Shiraz to the center of the international cultural map, the International Peace Culture Festival will offer Iran—and the world—a compelling new story: that of a nation reclaiming its voice through the transformative power of art.
